Hip-hop has roots in the city. It’s where people are hustling all around in their lives getting to where they need to go. Hip-hop likes taking this approach to life. That it’s from the casual bystander’s perspective that everything is running smoothly. Knowing the ins and outs of the street life can really gain you some respect as an MC.
The city
is full of people. All kinds of people live in the city. There are all types of
businesses, customers, people who live there. You have endless opportunities to
be who you want to be. Another ideal that hip-hop embraces. That it’s personal
ambition that can guide you to great places. The inner strength of the wisdom
that you have inside.
The wise
guys of the music world, rappers usually have a fair amount of statements to
make about life in general. Funny ways to live it, and funny ways to put it.
The wildest, most out-there lyrics in the game come from rap. And it all ties
back to how much respect you have on the streets.
If you
think about rappers like Wiz Khalifa, he’s someone who has a really laid back
approach to things. Like he’s lived it all already. He knows his way around
everything. It’s nothing new to Wiz. He’s had the game on lock since he was in
the womb, and was reincarnated just to show off the skills of the past lives
he’s lived.
Wiz
Khalifa has a lot of experience in the rap game. He’s been a key player in the
game since he first jumped out onto the scene. Another rapper who has a similar
approach is Chief Keef. Chief Keef is a known hustler who has a lot of
ambition. He sees his goals and tackles them like a quarterback.
Something
else Chief Keef and Wiz Khalifa have in common is that they’re doing the same
type of thing with their raps. They like to call it hyphy. Living life large
and in charge. Taking on the world from the balcony of their homes, watching
everything happen and having hip conversations about life.
Living
in a noticeable way is something that rappers really appreciate. That you
really know who it is that you’re speaking to when you’re talking to them. The
big characters that you could notice from a mile away. Like showing off the
things that you do with your life to people, in such a way that anyone could
tell it was you.
Rappers
like that they’re known for doing the things that they do. Any old school
rapper is going to say that they’ve had a fair share of run-ins with suspicious
characters, kind of a metaphor for how real they’re living their lives. They
like to keep things exciting. Not let life pass them by.
There
are rappers who live like that on the hyphy scene. A lot of it comes from the
Bay Area. It’s like a west coast style. It’s also popular in the Midwest, where
the scene takes a more emotional and physical approach. The Bay Area hyphy rap kind of edgy. Sometimes people like to talk ghetto, like big gangsters. It's a gangster rap style there. The Midwest takes this
style and classifies it into a higher frame of mind, pulling back the curtain to reveal the underpinnings guiding society to the places where it goes.
Wiz
Khalifa and Chief Keef are both from the Midwest. Wiz Khalifa hails from his
hometown of Pittsburgh, and Chief Keef from the windy city, Chicago. The styles
that these rappers embrace tells a lot about where they’re from and the things
that they’ve done in their lives. It’s not hard to tell that they bring their
styles hard for the rest of the world to embrace.
