Featuring an array of things
relevant to the culture of rap music, Future and Young Thug’s 2017 collab
album, Super Slimey, features banger after banger. It was ahead of its
time, really. The topics that they cover are super trendy. They trade off bars
talking game about different things, some closer to home, and some apparently
from another planet.
They
like to keep things cool on Super Slimey. The tracks on the album are all
titled in different themes. Saying different things relevant to the generation
of rap that the album was made in, but at the same time, coming closer to the
future of rap at points. They like to score points. They’ll go all over the map
just to nail something down on the other side.
Future
is decked out in a style that was far more advanced than his other albums of
2017. It’s like he was looking to the future of his career at this point.
Coming through with some ideas that were unheard of at the time. Really
representing what it means to be in the rap industry.
The
trendy styles of pop culture references that were present in the rap game in
2017 are definitely present on Super Slimey. They’re playing the game
straight, but at the same time, they sound like they’re watching out for the
future of rap. Potentially holding a lot of things together to keep the game
on, since a lot of other rappers fell off shortly after the era of rap that Super
Slimey comes from.
It’s a
relic of a generation of rap that seeks to preserve culture that goes far
beyond the album. Whether it’s coming from the rap of the year that it was made
in, or the future that the rappers are looking to, there’s a lot to count on
coming from Future and Young Thug’s epic collaboration.
